FOREVER YOUNG:
Where did the music go?  Have you tried to dance to "Smells Like Teen Spirit"?  And will someone please tell me what the facination is with that band?   Doesn't anyone realize that we are creating an entire generation of rhythmically imparied youth?  This is a tragedy on par with illiteracy, or the inability to put the toilet seat down!  Something must be done!

And these musically challenged individuals hate 80's music!  How many of you have been attacked by these unfortunates regarding the validity of this genre?  Raise your hands.  I thought so.  I can only assume their misguided passion is the manifestation of a baser insecurity.  Like, they must know on some level that their music sucks.  I feel that those of us priveledged enough to be more enlightened in this area should patiently guide these lost souls to a higher musical plane.  One with harmony and a beat.

The 80s saw the introduction of a whole new musical instrument - the keyboard.  OK, maybe technically computers happend and what was new was midi technology, but still!  That dacade has a unique sound like no other before or since.  When you stop to seriously consider the implications, it was a truly marvelous decade for (I believe) the most powerful art form - and my first love!

And the conduits for this marvelous medium? Some of the best bands ever.  Yes, I am shamelessly biased.  Still, I have picked my tops and listed them below.  These guys are still on their game, one way or another...and I'll tell you exactly why, right here...

The Fixx
Tears For Fears
These guys
Real Life super nice and they totally ROCK in concert!  PLUS they have the #1 best song of all time. And they email me at home.
Billy Idol/Steve Stevens: why do I always look like HELL during meetage????

TOP 80's SONGS OF ALL TIME!

I have agonized over this for 15 (or so) years, due to my increasingly strict criteria and anal-retentive nature, namely:

1. I have to get a really intense joy jolt from the music.
2. The joy jolt has to be a strong now as it was then.
3.  Duran Duran is blocked from the list for obvious reasons.

Now, without further ado, here is the ultimate, end-all-be-all, don't-even-try-to-argue-with-me-because-I'm-right top 5 list 'o music:

1.  Send Me An Angel - Real Life
2.  The One Thing - INXS
3.  Goody Two Shoes - Adam Ant
4.  In A Big Country - Big Country
5.  Whisper to a Scream (Birds Fly) - Icicle Works
6.  China - Red Rockers
7.  Lips Like Sugar - Echo and the Bunnymen
8.  Guilty - Classix Nouveaux (I'll look the spelling up later)
9.  You Can Leave Your Hat On - Joe Cocker
10. Stand or Fall - The Fixx
11. Down Under - Men At Work
12. Karma Chameleon - Culture Club
13. Dance Hall Days - Wang Chung
14. Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
